Yesterday, JP and her mom went out to find someone to fix the toilet and someone else to make some curtains, leaving the boys and me cooped up in the apartment all day long. After supper, we took them to an indoor play area and let them run wild.
Since it was 8 o’clock when we arrived, there were only a couple of little kids, but the boys could only play for an hour before they closed up shop, and we had to go home to bed.
This afternoon, after finding someone to tear up the bathroom in preparation of installing the new toilet, H and I lugged a 100 lb bag of cement up six flights of stairs. There was a hole in the bag, so when we got upstairs we were both gray and choking on cement dust.
We also had the internet moved to the new apartment, which allowed the boys to watch a little “Ben 10 Alien Force” before we headed back to the play area.
From the apartment to the play area, we walked over the mountain, down the mountain, straight a couple blocks, turn left, and 5 blocks more. It’s fun being a foreigner and walking in a city like CZ. People will stop in mid-sentence to stare at the foreign family…then count the children.
At the play area, JP’s cousin brought over the twins.
The weather today was in the 40s and 50s. The boys, JP and I were each wearing one long-sleeve shirt and a coat or jacket. The twins wore padded long-johns underneath a sweater, under thick winter jackets. It made me hot just to look at them.
JP has commented on the number of people dressed for winter in this weather. Of course, many people ask us, “Is that all you’re wearing? You need to wear more.” Grandma is constantly telling the boys to “Put on your house shoes.” There’s a good reason for that: the floors are cold. But the boys still don’t put the shoes on.
We should have our toilet tomorrow, and we might even move over to the apartment, even though there are still no curtains up.
