I still get surprised by things in China, or how Chinese react to things.
In the city where I live, we rarely have aircraft flying over the city, except for those just taking off or landing. One day, while out on the streets, I noticed people stopping and looking up at an airplane flying high overhead with contrails streaming behind it. I thought it was a little strange but didn’t pay much attention to it.
A week or two later, I was teaching an English class, when my students started talking and looking up out of the window. I went to see what they were looking at, and found another plane with contrails following behind. I then looked down at the street, and sure enough, people had stopped walking, and were looking up. A couple of people were even taking pictures with their phones.
When you’re not used to seeing something, I guess even what most folks would consider everyday happenings, seems strange to you.
