Rain and Play

JP is teaching a couple of cousins English on Saturdays and Sundays, so I took the boys to the indoor playground today since it’s raining. First, we went to KFC where we were on display – some girls just stood and stared at us, while a boy ran around yelling, “Waiguoren! (Foreigner!)” and some lady inspected the Valco stroller.

(To our friends that gave us the stroller: it’s a big hit here. We’ve gotten loads of comments about it.)

The playground was crowded today, but EJ found a girl friend right away. He and this girl were holding hands, walking around, playing together. I first saw them on the seesaw, but then they’d climb up and slide down together. Even when EJ had to change his diaper, his girlfriend was right there with them.

Some kids were coloring (it’s pictures with adhesive that you sprinkle glitter on) so the boys decided to do that. Afterwards, when they went back to play the girls from KFC were there and started playing with the boys. EC and N didn’t want to play with them since the girls were bigger and strangers, but EJ played and laughed with them. They would come over and ask what the boys’ names were, then run off calling for them.

We then went to buy some DVDs. EJ and N were on the stroller and EC was walking behind us with the umbrella – hitting nearly everyone he passed. Along the way, a guy started speaking to us in English. It was pretty much the best English I’ve heard spoken by a local CZren, besides my lovely wife. 🙂

We’re now recognized by the staff of Bu Bu Gao, where the playground is. As we were leaving, we went to the first floor before loading the stroller, and some lady said, “Does he really have three boys?” And one of the clerks replied, “Yep, three of them.” The first lady then told me how blessed I was to have three sons.

Blessed I am, but I wonder what she would have said if I had three daughters.

Maybe we need to come with our children and see what they say! Tell EC I’m proud of him for not letting any girls replace H, E, and K 🙂 Miss you guys!
